🗺️ Detailed Itinerary (Day by Day)
Day 1: Sacred Valley Magic & Train Journey to Machu Picchu
| Chinchero Altitude: 3,762 m | Aguas Calientes: 2,040 m. Expert Tip: We begin at 6:30 a.m. with a pick-up from your Cusco hotel. Starting early allows us to explore the Sacred Valley almost entirely to ourselves, beating the heavy crowds. We first travel to the picturesque town of Chinchero. Here, we will explore its impressive archaeological site and visit the home of local Andean women weavers, who will demonstrate ancestral techniques of natural dyeing with alpaca wool. We continue to Moray (the Inca agricultural laboratory of circular terraces) and the astonishing Maras Salt Mines, a visual spectacle of thousands of salt pools carved into the mountain. At lunchtime, your guide will recommend the best local restaurants to taste authentic Peruvian gastronomy (meals not included). In the afternoon, we explore the imposing fortress of Ollantaytambo, a masterpiece of stone engineering. At 16:36 hrs, you will board the IncaRail train from Ollantaytambo station to Machu Picchu Pueblo (Aguas Calientes), a scenic 1.5-hour ride. Upon arrival, our team will be waiting to escort you to your hotel. You will have the evening free to dine and rest. |
Day 2: Private Exploration of the Wonder of the World & Return to Cusco
| Machu Picchu Altitude: 2,430 m / 7,972 ft. The big day is here! Your guide will meet you at your hotel. Recommendation: Check out early and leave your extra luggage at your Cusco hotel storage (free) or in Aguas Calientes, as only small daypacks are permitted inside Machu Picchu. We will take the eco-bus (25 mins) up to the citadel entrance. You will enter by presenting your official ticket and original passport. Once inside, you will enjoy a transformational travel experience with a detailed private tour led by our local expert. The exploration time and route depend on your specific circuit ticket (approx. 1 to 3 hours). After the tour, we will take the bus back down to Aguas Calientes for lunch (not included). In the afternoon, you will board your return train to Ollantaytambo or Poroy. Our private driver will be waiting at the station to transfer you directly back to your hotel in Cusco. |

🎒 What to Bring & What to Wear (Expert Packing List)
What to pack in your daypack:
• Original Passport: Strictly mandatory! Must be the exact passport used for booking.
• Small daypack (max 20 liters allowed inside the sanctuary).
• Personal medications (if you are on any treatment, carry them with you).
• Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a sun hat.
• Mosquito repellent (Machu Picchu is located in the high jungle/cloud forest region).
• Extra cash (Soles): Useful for buying water, using the entrance restrooms, or purchasing a plastic rain poncho along the way if needed. (Note: Formal restaurants and large souvenir shops in town do accept credit cards).
What to pack for the overnight stay:
• Since you will spend the night in Aguas Calientes, prepare a small carry-on or overnight bag with an extra change of clothes for the next day and your personal toiletries.
How to dress for the tour:
• Light and comfortable clothing: Wear trekking pants or athletic leggings.
• Sun protection: A breathable long-sleeved shirt to protect your skin.
• Proper footwear: Comfortable hiking shoes or sturdy sneakers. The visit involves a moderate hike over uneven stone paths.
• Layering system: Bring a light fleece jacket for the chilly morning and a rain jacket or windbreaker, as Andean weather is highly unpredictable.
🧳 Important Train Luggage Policy
For the journey to Machu Picchu, the railway companies strictly allow only a small backpack or hand luggage (max 5 kg / 11 lbs) onboard.
• Our expert recommendation: Check out of your Cusco hotel before starting the tour and leave your large suitcases in their luggage storage room. This service is completely free and secure at all hotels until you return.
• If you absolutely must bring large suitcases on the train due to an emergency, please be aware that the railway companies (PeruRail / IncaRail) will charge a significant extra fee at boarding, according to their own policies.
🚨 Booking Anticipation
Traveler Notice: Entrance tickets to the Machu Picchu citadel are subject to strict daily government limits and sell out very quickly. To guarantee your spot, secure the best train schedules, and ensure a seamless experience, we highly recommend confirming your booking and submitting your deposit several months in advance.
